Shauna Yorty works with her neighbors and community on various projects, including Adopt-A-Block weekly trash cleanups, community art projects, and serves as the community liaison for Garden in the Light, a community garden that supports the Mussertown neighborhood with fresh, organically grown produce. She has organized large-scale mural events in proximity to the garden as well as hosts education and volunteer events to engage her community.  Shauna is the recipient of the 2021 Mira Lloyd Dock Partnership Diversity Award and a 2022 PACE Neighbors Artist. She is certified in permaculture and uses these practices in her work, as well as collaborates with the city’s Department of Neighborhood Engagement, Neighborhood Leadership Academy, and local businesses and diverse community groups to coordinate volunteer events and expand the garden’s footprint.

Garden in the Light’s mission is to serve the community of Mussertown and surrounding area with a safe place to raise healthy, chemical-free vegetables and to learn about gardening. We desire to live in community with our neighbors and to enhance our lives with food, flowers, art, and fellowship.

We keep neighbors up to date on all garden happenings and work directly with our larger community group, Mussertown Neighbors through our facebook page.
