Keys For The City

Welcome to Lancaster Pennsylvania,
the Street Piano Capital of the World!

Keys for the City 2024 marks the return of the MFE Street piano program. We’re excited to bring the city’s most impactful interactive, mixed media public art project back to the streets of Lancaster.

In the Spring and Summer of 2024 MFE will celebrate fifteen years of Keys for the City. Starting the third week of May, Keys for the City will feature custom-designed pianos to be displayed throughout the city at various hot spots and sidewalk locations, accessible to the public 24/7. We’ll also be hosting season long celebrations of the street pianos on the streets for 15 years and their positive impact on the Lancaster Community.

The objective of Keys for the City is to provide access to musical opportunity, foster creativity and build a sense of community among the public and, in the process, raise resources awareness for local music and visual arts education initiatives.

“Over the past fourteen summers, Lancastrians have embraced and cared for these pianos in a way that has been inspiring. That’s why we call Lancaster the “Street Piano Capital of the World,” said John Gerdy, Executive Director of Music For Everyone. “Whether people stop by to play a few notes or an entire piece, there will be thousands of magical, musical moments that will occur around those pianos this summer. This project is a literal expression of what this organization is all about – Music For Everyone.”
